The Role
As the Procurement Category Manager, you will lead the end-to-end procurement process across a diverse portfolio of building products, subcontractors and key spend categories.
Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will play a critical role in shaping category strategies, driving commercial outcomes and strengthening supplier partnerships across the Group. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will analyse spend and demand, research supply markets and evaluate supplier capability to identify opportunities, manage risk and create long-term value.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute category and sourcing strategies aligned to ABN Group’s commercial objectives and long-term growth plans.
- Use spend analysis, demand insights, market research and cost drivers to identify value opportunities and inform sourcing decisions.
- Research and map supply markets to understand supplier capability, capacity, risk, innovation and alternative sourcing options.
- Lead competitive sourcing processes, including market engagement, RFIs, RFPs, RFQs, bid evaluation, due diligence and supplier selection.
- Develop and manage complex commercial contracts, ensuring strong commercial outcomes, appropriate risk allocation and supplier accountability.
- Lead negotiations and establish sustainable, long-term supplier agreements that balance total cost, quality, service, capacity and strategic fit.
- Build strategic supplier partnerships that support innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Influence stakeholders across operations, commercial, finance and construction to challenge established practices and improve whole-of-life value.
- Track sourcing benefits and contribute to the ongoing maturity of ABN Group’s procurement and supply chain capability.
About You
You bring demonstrated experience in procurement, category management or a related commercial discipline, managing significant spend portfolios and delivering strategic business outcomes.
A commercially astute and proactive professional, you combine strong analytical capability, business acumen and relationship-building skills. You are curious about how markets operate, confident working with data and able to turn insight into practical sourcing and commercial outcomes.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver category or sourcing strategies that achieve cost savings, commercial value and improved business performance.
- Strong capability in spend and market analysis, competitive sourcing, supplier evaluation and benefits delivery.
- Exceptional negotiation and contracting capability, including experience with complex, long-term supplier agreements.
- Strong ability to identify and mitigate commercial and supply risks, including evaluating supplier capability beyond price across quality, service, capacity, financial resilience and innovation.
- Highly developed stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence leaders across multiple functions and constructively challenge established practices.
- Experience operating in construction, building products, manufacturing, property or another complex supply environment will be highly regarded.
- Tertiary qualifications in Economics, Commerce, Business, Finance, Supply Chain or a related discipline. MBA, postgraduate qualifications or relevant procurement credentials will be highly regarded.
