About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Payroll Lead to join our team and play an important role in delivering an accurate, efficient and reliable payroll service across ABN Group.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll combine your payroll expertise with day-to-day coordination and support of the payroll team. You’ll help manage workflow across a busy payroll environment, ensuring our people are paid accurately and on time while maintaining strong compliance, process integrity and service standards.
You’ll work closely with the broader team and stakeholders across ABN Group, responding to payroll queries, supporting complex payroll matters and identifying opportunities to continually improve the way we work.
Processing multiple companies, weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay frequencies, this role will suit someone who is comfortable working in a complex environment and can balance operational delivery with leadership and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities Include:
- Lead and coordinate day-to-day payroll processing activities, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time
- Manage competing priorities to deliver multiple pay runs
- Process and review payrolls, including new starters, employee changes, bonuses, commissions, terminations and redundancy calculations
- Oversee payroll reporting, bank files, PAYG, superannuation, leave accruals and end-of-month activities
- Support the team to resolve payroll queries, providing a high level of service to employees and stakeholders
- Maintain payroll compliance, process integrity and agreed service levels
- Support periods of high-volume processing and ensure work is effectively prioritised across the team
- Coach, train and support Payroll team members, building capability and cross-skilling across the function
- Review existing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy and the employee experience
- Support audit requirements and contribute to broader Finance and Group initiatives.
What we're looking for
You’ll be an experienced payroll professional who combines strong technical knowledge with the ability to lead, organise and support others.
You’ll bring:
- Strong end-to-end payroll experience within a complex or high-volume environment
- Sound knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance requirements and payroll processes
- Experience coordinating payroll workflows and supporting multiple pay runs and frequencies
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
- Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- A collaborative leadership style and the ability to coach and develop others
- A continuous improvement mindset, with experience reviewing and improving payroll processes
- The ability to adapt and remain effective in a changing environment.
